music, Monte Klein and Jim Zawodni are no strangers to performing. Both have followed separate paths with their musical interests and have never lived in the same location at any point in time. Yet they have frequently played together over the past decade and are now bringing their talents to the live stage at Winston’s Pub in Marshall on July 23. Monte was one of the original Mug Night performers at Winston’s Pub back in the late 70’s and early 80’s and is frequently requested to perform for local class reunions and events. Musically rooted for over 35 years in rhythm & blues and folk, Monte sings and plays harmonica and all types of guitar. A Marshall native, Monte now lives in Manistee, Michigan, with his wife Monica, who also plays hammer dulcimer and performs with him. Jimmy Z has been an avid blues player for over 40 years. During his college days at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, he performed at venues in the Detroit, Ann Arbor, and East Lansing areas as well as numerous clubs on Put-in-Bay where he summered. Jim was the original lead guitarist for Ben Dover and the Screamers, a legendary island band known throughout the Detroit, Toledo and Cleveland areas. Jim finally stopped collecting college degrees, and his professional career took him to Kentucky where he was a founding member of the seminal blues bands The Hoodoo Brothers, Michael Gough’s Delta Blues, and The Part Time Blues Band. He later showcased his talents as a member of Soul Food. An introduction to his wife, Susan, brought him back to Michigan where he is planning to re-establish his vintage guitar and amplifier sales and repair business. Jim and Monte form a synergistic union of driving music with a great beat (they tap their feet loudly). Their charismatic and engaging style coupled with a sharp sense of humor make this a “must see” performance! |
